about:
This amazing plant can grow under extremely low light and needs hardly any water.
It has smooth, waxy leaves and develops tubers under the ground. It is commonly found growing in the misty forests of Tanzania and Zanzibar where you can see it suvive in rocky outcrops. It is thought to be one of the most primitive plants on earth. New leaves slowly unfurl into a graceful stem. Architectually it is a great structural plant that looks like no other.
Growers of this plant say that no two plants grow the same. It can be bonsaied by growing in a small pot or can grow up to around a metre high. It is the diverse amount of light in each or our homes that makes each one grow to a different shape. Yours will be truly unique.
In Malaysia they call it the prosperity plant and many feng shui believers keep this plant in the house for good luck.
care:
Obviously water requirements alter according to the climate you live in.
During hot weather, water every second week at most. Fertilise with liquid fertiliser once or twice.
During the cold season, water sparingly, say a small amount of water once every month. Overwatering can cause the plant to yellow.
The plant is a slow grower in cooler climates. You should still be able to re-pot into a larger pot every year or so.
Plant will grow outdoors, but direct sunlight will burn leaves.
Like many plants, this plant may be harmful if eaten. |
